The IKEA MÅLA line is all of their arts and crafts items. They also have a huge line of toys, play items like kitchen sets, and more. If you aren’t familiar with it, the items are surprisingly well made and very affordable. After Savya expressed great interest in the chalkboard and chalk during our last IKEA visit, we picked one up.
We are currently learning our shapes, numbers, and enjoying colouring to engage his creativity & imagination. He even helps to clean up! Well, sort of. It’s a start and I’m taking it, haha. He uses this chalkboard everyday and it’s very easy to use. I use a fibrous cloth to wipe it off during use. To clean it completely, I use a multipurpose wipe then wait for it to dry.
Above are depictions from The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Little Blue Truck. Both are Savya’s favourite books at the moment. I’m not an artist at all, so I apologise for my poor art, haha. He enjoyed the telling of his favourite stories in a brand new way, and it kept him engaged for over an hour, which is AMAZING.
Savya is very active, needing engagement on a constant level. He is a super cheerful kid, but as most toddlers, he can become inconsolable during tantrums. Drawing helps to calm and relax him, keeping tantrums at bay and avoiding severe boredom without resorting to having to switch on the TV. So far, he is paying attention and loving it.
The cost of the chalkboard is £16, 9 pieces of chalk is sold for £1. Overall, this cost under £20 and provides a lot of entertainment for our little one, so I consider this purchase a MOM WIN!
